Dunbar v Brock

Dunbar RFC 1st XV hosted Brock RFC from Ontario, Canada who were on a pre-season tour of Scotland. The tourists had been narrowly defeated by Duns in their first match and had beaten Alloa with a last gasp try in a match which had everything and racked up over 110 points between the teams.
The match kicked off in perfect conditions on a pitch which looked much better than a couple of weeks earlier due to the Country eventually seeing some decent rainfall for the first time.

The match was a robust affair with both defences on top form. Play was restricted between both twenty-two’s for almost the first quarter. Dunbar started to look the more likelier to score and that was the case after 22 minutes when the Dunbar backs created space for John Peebles to score in the corner which Peters converted. This seemed to stir the visitors into action and from a scrum on the Dunbar twenty two, the Brock number nine weaved through a crumbling defence to score under the posts to level the match on 26 minutes. Dunbar started to get on top and were rewarded in more than one way as Jack Walters dived for the line to be awarded the score on 36 minutes, when it was clear the ball had been knocked loose. Greg Patrizio then added another on the stroke of half time to give his side a 17-7 lead at the break.
Dunbar were on it straight from the re start and a reverse pass from Peters to Thomson saw the Centre break through only to be brought down ten metres out. Graeme Reid was following up and Thomson gave the hooker a lovely pop ball for the try. Brock came back strong and had several attempts but the home defence was on top form.
Dylan Moffat is not known for his try count but the same player had a big influence on the game scoring two similar tries on 53 and 57 minutes with Charlton converting both.
Brock then upped the intensity and were awarded a try after some good play by their big forwards. John Peebles scored his second try on 69 minutes after the winger broke through on half way to touch down at the posts which Charlton converted.

Antoin Penrose had the last word with a try in the corner after good work by Thomson.
This was a decent work out for Dunbar who now look forward to playing North Berwick next Saturday in a Shield match at Recreation Park.
