Doddie Cup 555 Ride

Departing 9th Feb 2023, the ride is 555 miles from Principality Stadium, Cardiff to Murrayfield Stadium, Edinburgh and the riders are aiming to complete the ride in 55 hours. The timing is especially significant as we will be transporting the match ball for the Doddie Weir Cup Six Nations match between Scotland and Wales.

As well as a core team doing the ride, there may be as many as 35 other relay teams of 4 riders, including a large contingent of international rugby players. Last year, we raised over £300,000 and involved the likes of Colin Charvis, Alix Popham, Iwan Tukalo and Martin Johnson, who were popular visitors at the rugby clubs we visited during the route.

The ride is only possible with the support of rugby clubs who provide an ideal place to rest, recover and regroup between each 4 hour leg of the ride. The teams only stay for about 40 minutes at each stop, but as the event stretches, riders can be rolling in over a potential window of 3 to 4 hours. We would be getting to Dunbar around lunchtime on Sat 11th, though the various teams will be well spread out in time and distance as explained. We would be looking for space to relax, toilet facilities and possibly some simple food and refreshments to keep us fuelled for the final leg to Edinburgh.

Match Officials

Please find attached a link detailing information about a new Match Official recruitment campaign in the East region. This campaign has been developed as a result of a shortage of referees throughout the east region, which has resulted in a number of matches being postponed in recent weeks. Details of how your club can support the campaign are contained within the letter. If you would like any further information about the campaign then please contact your local referee society or a member of the rugby development team. Full campaign details can be found here https://bit.ly/matchofficiating.

A new mental health group has recently started in Dunbar. Andy’s Man Club (AMC)operates 18+ male-only, peer-to-peer, talking sessions; geared at encouraging conversation on Men’s Mental Health and aiming to save lives and reduce male suicide. We meet at the Bleachingfield on Monday nights at 7pm and have already got off to a great start with men joining the group. It is one of 58 groups un the UK and each week approximately 800 men attend them.
